A blog about chapters 3/9/10 by Nathan Alvarez Chapter 3 is all about communication and how different cultures should communicate with each other for example in order to avoid situations that might be considered rude to the other culture. Chapter 3 defines culture as "a system of shared values, beliefs, attitudes, and norms that guides what is considered appropriate among an identifiable group of people" (Samovar, Porter, & McDaniel, 2012). Chapter 3 explains how behind every culture in the heart of it are its values. The values of a culture are basically what determines right from wrong, good from bad, fair from unfair, and etc. Cultures have 2 sets of values one is ideal values and the other is real values. Ideal values are values people claim to follow for example the laws in the united states don't let you J-walk but most people do it anyways and don't feel wrong about it.
